Busan, South Korea. Burket, represented by its co-founder and CEO Herbert Joei Bactong, pitched in front of investors and business leaders during the ASEAN-Republic of Korea (ROK) Startup Expo Come Up 2019 held at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center in Busan, South Korea.

Burket and 19 other startups from the ASEAN member nations and South Korea presented their business ideas to judges composed of Korean and foreign investors and venture capitalists. Each startup presented for 5 minutes and were allotted 3 minutes for questions and answers.

Burket positions itself as the go-to-platform for business matching and networking. Burket also aims to level the playing field across industries allowing MSME’s to compete in both the local and global markets.

The event was opened with a ceremony where ASEAN leaders, including President Rodrigo Duterte, placed a symbolic star on a panel. In a speech by Korean President Moon Jae-In, ASEAN and Korean startups are expected to flourish through cooperation and establish a network of investment. After the pitches, Park Young-sun, Minister of SMEs and Startups (MSS), delivered a speech encouraging the startups to pursue growth and recognized them for their efforts and their spirit of entrepreneurship.

The ASEAN-ROK Startup Expo is one of the side events of the 2019 ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit celebrating the 30th anniversary of ASEAN-ROK dialogue relations. With the theme “Partnership for Peace, Prosperity for People”, the event aims to share knowledge and establish cooperation between startups in the ASEAN region and Korea.
